Nevada County Coloring Club Favorite Books
Coloring isn't just for kids anymore. We discovered the joys of coloring with a grown up twist. Bring together mimosa drinks and art-quality pencils and beautiful modern coloring books to create a wonderful morning! Our first two gatherings have been incredibly inspiring and fun. The coloring community is lovely!
From the beginning, I knew we would give original pages from the books. I wanted the artists to receive credit (and payment) for their hard work. The quality of paper makes a wonderful difference when coloring.
Friends want to know where to find their own books. We finish and frame our page, but what about a collection?
These are our current favorites in Coloring Club.
Secret Garden: An Inky Treasure Hunt and Coloring Book
The book that inspired over a million adults to pick up those colored pencils again! This one continues to be a favorite, especially with the themes of hummingbirds and flowers.
What a challenge, to pick a page from the Enchanted Forest! Foxes or hedgehogs? Feathers or leaves? This book has given us beautiful art. When it arrived, I immediately ordered two more copies- one for my daughter and one for myself :)
Buddhist Paintings Coloring Book
This collection uses heavyweight paper. Images are single-sided, so they don't have printing on both sides of the page. They have created gorgeous images for anyone who colors these designs.
Charles Rennie Mackintosh Designs Coloring Book
This coloring book inspires a lot of questions. Usually, "Where did you find this one?" The illustrations are single-sided on nice paper. Charles Rennie Mackintosh was an architect and artist that was inspired by "art nouveau". We enjoy the shapes and opportunities for alternative artistic styles.
-Colortwist- Pink Coloring Book (Dover Coloring Books)
Why color a black-and-white page when you can color between pink lines? The designs in this book are all printed in pink. I didn't realize how familiar the black and white format was until I saw the novelty of pink. The collages "convey a sense of energy and movement" (from the back cover). Images are single sided. Looks like they offer green, blue, and purple twists too!
My next Coloring Club post will share the supplies we use to create art. After all, colors matter too. After people ask about our coloring pages, they want to know about the pencils and blending pencils and markers. More good stuff!
