Discover the Dinosaurs
We surprised the kids. We told them we would take advantage of sales and go to the big stores down the hill. Then we kept driving. "Who wants to see dinosaurs?"
They couldn't believe their good fortune! Real dinosaurs (well, real robots). That you can touch! Joy! The dinosaurs were animatronic. They had one cut-away so kids could see how they make the beasts move. The dinosaurs reminded me of childhood, when my grandma would take me to the Academy of Sciences and I would marvel over the giant sloth from prehistoric times.
The kids loved that they could touch the displays. Kids don't get to touch very often. So they had to reach into every mouth. 
Of course they needed selfies with dinosaurs. And of course their auntie needed to photobomb! :)
They declared this the "best surprise ever"! And, while we grownups would have loved a few more dinosaurs (this is it? really?), the kids found their travels through time delightful. We all made great memories as we visited Discover the Dinosaurs. Anika really, really wanted to bring one home. Dinosaurs rule!
