Lake Tahoe with Family

The summer slipped past until we realized that we had to seize the day. And what a wonderful late-summer celebration! The sun was warm enough to inspire the kids (and a few adults) to go into the cold clear water. We braved possibly sick children and broken cars for a weekend trip to Lake Tahoe. The kids turned out to be full of energy. Totally fine. My cousin visited from the Bay Area and the sensor lights in her car tripped on as she left the freeway towards our house. Possible disaster! Luckily the great folks at Plaza Tire and Auto locally helped her out and figured out that the car's sensors had an issue while the engine was just fine. So we got to enjoy our day at the lake after all, hurrah!

The California drought affects even a lake as big as Tahoe. Docks now reach over sandy shores, giving shade more than any water access. As the water levels drop, little pools form that are perfect for splashing.

Of course, the lake is still a mighty big place to cool off. Something about all that fresh water, and the distant mountains is especially dreamy...

We brought mermaids, of course. The water was to cold for us to use the underwater camera, but even mermaids love a little sun on the shore. She got plenty of attention, too. Which she loves :)

A day at the lake was perfect for all of us. Water-tousled hair, warm sunshine, and mountain-rimmed views around the bluest water... Lenkaland Photography

The puddles of water gave the kids a perfect chance for Mud Baths. Which led to mud angels :)

As the big kids swam again, Will splashed and explored.

Will and Gavin shared a moment while the big kids went into deep water. I had to grab my camera fast for this one. The next moment they were searching for crawdads among the rocks just down the shore.

You can see how the dock leads to nowhere now... Giving more shade than water access. I sure hope we got more rain this winter!

My brother brought a new game similar to bocce ball with little silver balls that you toss towards a target. It's called Petanque or Boules (I think). A fun game to play anywhere. Of course Will was fascinated by the game. They played a round with him too. He could throw! A set like the one Paul brought is here.

The most important thing for me is memories. The bright, shining togetherness that lasts long after summer becomes fall. I treasure the time we spend together. I treasure this day :)
