Worldwide Instameet in Nevada City

This past weekend I participated in the Worldwide Instameet. We gathered at the Outside Inn for a ramble about town. I've lived here most of my life. And gathering with friends to explore familiar areas inspired me to look again at the beauty of Nevada City. From the old cemetery with stories in worn marble, to downtown where we found a Gypsy Jazz band drifting through town, I absolutely loved photographing my hometown. Our little town has some big beautiful photography opportunities. The instameet gave me a chance to meet local photographers for a wander around Nevada City, California. Our town was founded in the gold-rush era with incredible architectural details and vibrant gardens. As a group, we started in a historical cemetery where we mused about life in pioneer days. We found autumn trees, enjoyed the neighborhood, then walked downtown. There, beside the saloon and vintage shops, we found a Gypsy Jazz band enroute to New Orleans with their hound and kitten. Quite an adventure!

Many thanks to Outside Inn and Kial James for organizing the day.

The old cemetery at the top of the hill. I have many memories here from my younger years (we were always respectful. It was quiet and we could be there without spending any money). We value the history and stories in this beautiful place.

@rosannenevadacity noticed how this tombstone had a "watermark" of the company and address that carved the stone. Even then, advertising was a creative pursuit... Wonder how many people found them from a tombstone. "Who made WM's grave marker? Oh, that Myers company on Market Street."

The gardens of Nevada City had so many little treasures. Sweet little decorations and beautiful plants. I don't get to stroll very ofter (I need to be having a good day), so I really appreciated seeing everything that people added to their yards.

A fun group of Gypsy Jazz musicians stopping by town on their way to New Orleans. Notice the kitten on the fiddler's knee. They were a fun group!

Walking back to my car (little too much walking, but that's another story), I glimpsed pets and gardens and details that I tend to overlook when running errands. What a special town.
